Prayer for God’s Mercy
Merciful Lord, it does not surprise me that you forget completely the sins of those who repent. I am not surprised that you remain faithful to those who hate and revile you. The mercy which pours forth from you fills the whole world. It was by your mercy that we were created, and by your mercy that you redeemed us by sending your Son. Your mercy is the light in which sinners find you and good people come back to you. Your mercy is everywhere, even in the depths of hell where you offer to forgive the tortured souls. Your justice is constantly tempered with mercy, so you refuse to punish us as we deserve. O mad Lover! It was not enough for you to take on our humanity; you had to die for us as well.
~ Saint Catherine of Siena ~
In his letter, Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis wrote:
“We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it. Mercy: the word reveals the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Mercy: the ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us. Mercy: the fundamental law that dwells in the heart of every person who looks sincerely into the eyes of his brothers and sisters on the path of life. Mercy: the bridge that connects God and man, opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness.”
This rosary was created for prayer that we may recognize our sinfulness, offer gratitude to God for His mercy and ask for the Grace to become more merciful toward others.
Representing the seriousness of our sins, every element in this rosary is dark. Understanding that there are degrees of sin, these elements shade from black to gray. Observing at the Paters, you will see that the beads are Czech snake glass. Their surface is, visibly, symbolic of sin. If you look carefully, you will notice that a gray Aurora Borealis crystal flanks each Pater. The light of the crystal is a reminder of the light of God’s mercy. Black oval lentil beads are the Aves and a lighter shade of gray spaces them. A gunmetal crucifix and center continue the symbolism of this very limited edition rosary which measures 29 ½”.

I. MERCY AND SIN
1846 The Gospel is the revelation in Jesus Christ of God's mercy to sinners.113 The angel announced to Joseph: "You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."114 The same is true of the Eucharist, the sacrament of redemption: "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."115
1847 "God created us without us: but he did not will to save us without us."116 To receive his mercy, we must admit our faults. "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."117
1848 As St. Paul affirms, "Where increased, grace sin abounded all the more."118 But to do its work grace must uncover sin so as to convert our hearts and bestow on us "righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."119 Like a physician who probes the wound before treating it, God, by his Word and by his Spirit, casts a living light on sin:
“In what can I hope, then, or in whom ought I trust, save only in the great mercy of God and the hope of heavenly grace?”
