Forty Days in the Desert
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”’
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Among the definitions of wilderness are, “a bewildering situation” and “a wild or uncultivated state.” When Jesus went into the wilderness, He went into a dry, empty region. For us, that region may be spiritual bewilderment, uncultivated spirituality or a time of spiritual dryness. During these times, we may feel forsaken and become tempted to turn away from God. A wise priest once asked me, “What do you do when you are in a time of spiritual dryness?” I answered, “Pray harder.” He smiled in affirmation.
This rosary was created for prayer during times when our soul feels empty; when we pray but feel God is not listening. It was created for prayer that we may be given the Grace to reject the temptation to turn away from God and wait patiently for Him to reveal Himself in a way that we, in our humanness, can understand. Our prayer is that this rosary may pull us more deeply into a prayer of hope and patience.

Representing the sand and dryness of the wilderness, we have chosen sandy brown for this sacred strand. Aves are fiber optic faceted cat’s eyes which reflect the beauty of the surrounding light and illustrate the light of hope. Czech glass spaces the Aves and leads us to the hand carved jade Paters. A sterling Marian center, with The Sacred Heart of Jesus on reverse, and Penal crucifix complete this one-of-a-kind rosary which measures 21”.
