For this rosary, we’ve chosen blue with a depth of color symbolizing the darkness of a stormy sky. Pearlized glass from the Czech Republic are the main beads in this strand. Separated by German crystal, they bring us to the lighter, yet still solemn, blue Paters which are flanked by daisy style spacers. To further recall Mary’s sorrows, a small black bead is added before and after each Pater. Completed with a pictorial Our lady of Sorrows center and figural crucifix, this rosary measures 22”.

Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows

O Blessed Virgin Mary, Immaculate Mother of God, who didst endure a martyrdom of love and grief, beholding the sufferings and sorrows of Jesus! Thou didst co-operate in the benefit of my redemption by thy innumerable afflictions and by offering to the Eternal Father His only-begotten Son as a holocaust and victim of propitiation for my sins. I thank thee for the unspeakable love which led thee to deprive thyself of the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus, true God and true Man, to save me, a sinner. Oh! make use of the unfailing intercession of thy sorrows with the Father and the Son. that I may steadfastly amend my life and never again crucify my loving Redeemer by new sins; arid that, persevering till death in His grace, I may obtain eternal life through the merits of His Cross and Passion. Amen.

How heavy was Mary’s heart as she watched her son suffer? Is it possible to grasp even a portion of the sorrow she experienced? She knew from the beginning, that He was destined for the cross. She cared for Him as a child. She washed His adorable face. She watched Him grow but always, her maternal joy was overshadowed by the sorrow of the prophecy of Simeon. This prophecy would come to pass and would pierce her immaculate heart to a degree of darkness beyond our human comprehension. This rosary is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows in the knowing that, in her, we will find solace during our own sorrows.
